Gladioli

Gladioli flowers are tall graceful stems of exuberant colour. They are fantastic for adding height to the back of an herbaceous border or grown on the allotment as a cut flower. The flowers open from the bottom of the spike upwards giving them a long flowering period usually later in the summer when other flowers are starting to wane.

Growing Gladioli

Gladioli corms should be planted in the spring, 10cm (4”) deep, in fertile well drained soil. Planting on a bed of sharp sand is advisable on less well drained soils. In windy gardens staking is advisable and is best carried out at the same time as planting. In frost prone areas gladioli corms need to be lifted, dried and stored to guarantee winter survival.
